Topamax (topiramat) can be prescribed by your health care provider if you are suffering from migraine headaches, or in case you need to prevent and control seizures. Topamax can be combined with other drugs for best effects, but make sure you do not combine it with anything yourself. Your doctor needs to know s much as possible about your current health condition and the drugs you are taking at the moment to be able to prescribe you this drug. The following health conditions are supposed to be reported in advance, before you are prescribed a dose, as they may affect the amount of Topamax you will be required to take. The following health conditions must be mentioned: kidney disease, glaucoma, emphysema, a recent history of a surgery, liver disease, asthma, a history of kidney stones, and bronchitis. Patients younger than 24 sometimes reported suicidal thoughts (the risk is higher in this age group). Patients younger than 24 are usually required to visit the doctor regularly during the first 3 months of their treatment to rule out serious health consequences and prevent them from doing any ram to themselves. Some other side effects besides dizziness can include: weight loss, headache, memory problems, problems with balance, loss of appetite, numbness, tingling, sleep problems, and trouble concentrating. Report these side effects only if they get too bothersome to handle. Such serious side effects as hot and dry skin, seizure, decreased sweating, dry mouth, sudden vision loss, nausea, fast heart rate, muscle pain or weakness, vomiting, confusion, and drowsiness need to be reported to your health care provider as soon as you notice them. Never take more of Topamax than prescribed. If you think you may have used too much of this medicine – seek emergency medical help. The following symptoms are possible if you have taken too much: depression, dizziness, blurred vision, pounding heartbeats, fainting, problems with speech, seizure, stomach pain, drowsiness, chest pain, and lightheadedness.
